Best AI Email Client for Mac in 2026: 7 Compared

Mac users have a wide field to pick from. Apple ships a free client with Apple Intelligence built in, Mimestream sells a Mac-only app built directly on the Gmail API, and several AI-first clients compete for the same desktop. The catch is that "has a Mac app" and "feels like a Mac app" are different claims. Some of these apps answer a global shortcut and live in your menu bar. Others are offered alongside a Chrome extension, and the desktop build is one option among several. This roundup checked each vendor's own pricing, download and support pages on September 11, 2026, and sorts out which ones are worth installing.

What is the best AI email client for Mac?

It depends on what "AI" means to you. If it means drafts that sound like you without prompting, Slashy and Shortwave both learn from your sent mail, and Superhuman's Business tier adds auto drafts on top of a client that also runs Gmail and Outlook. If AI means light writing help inside an app you already trust, Apple Mail's Writing Tools proofread and rewrite tone for free. If you want no AI at all and just a fast, Mac-only Gmail client, Mimestream is built for exactly that.

What makes a Mac email client actually feel native?

A lot of "Mac apps" in this category are a website in a frame. The tell is what happens when you are not looking at the app. A native client answers a global keyboard shortcut from anywhere on the machine, sits quietly in the menu bar instead of taking a Dock slot for a background process, shows an unread count on its Dock icon, and posts real Notification Center alerts that respect Do Not Disturb rather than a browser-tab favicon change. Slashy's Mac app does all four: Cmd+/ summons it from any app, it runs in the menu bar in the background, the Dock icon carries an unread badge, and notifications go through Notification Center. It also supports genuinely separate windows: Cmd+N opens a second window, and you can drag a tab out into its own window or Cmd+click a thread to open it in a new tab, which matters if you triage in one window and write in another.

Vendors describe their own Mac story differently. Superhuman's download page offers two options for Mac: a Chrome extension and a Mac app, so you pick the form you prefer. Mimestream sits at the other end. It has no browser or web version at all. It is a Mac app and nothing else, and its site documents no iOS app.

Which of these actually draft in your voice?

Three of the seven build drafts from what you have already written, rather than a generic prompt. Slashy pulls from your sent mail, saved memories about each relationship, and connected context such as meeting notes, and its own product data shows draft acceptance rising from around 30% on day one to over 80% by day 30. Shortwave calls its version "personalized AI writing" and says it learns your style, tone and facts about you from the emails you send. Superhuman's Auto drafts feature lives on the Business tier at $33 a month rather than the $25 Starter plan.

The rest are a step down in personalization. Apple Mail's Writing Tools will proofread a draft or rewrite its tone on request, but Apple's own guide describes it as a one-click rewriting tool, not something trained on your sent-mail history. Canary's AI Copilot offers compose assistance, but the company does not document on its pricing page whether that assistance adapts to your individual writing style. Mimestream documents no AI drafting at all. Spark sells an AI Assistant on its Plus tier and lists Auto-Drafts as "SOON."
