If you want to stay inside Outlook, Microsoft 365 Copilot is the native option and Fyxer is the assistant layer that drafts in your tone. If you are willing to change the client, Superhuman and Slashy both work with Outlook and put drafting, triage and follow-ups in one app. Spark is the low-cost pick. Shortwave does not support Outlook mailboxes.

Most AI email roundups quietly assume Gmail. If your company runs on Microsoft 365, or you live in a personal Outlook.com address, half of those lists do not apply to you. This page only covers tools that work with an Outlook mailbox today, and every competitor claim below was read on the vendor's own site on October 6, 2026 and is linked inline. We build Slashy, which is one of the options, so weigh our take accordingly.
Which AI email assistants work with Outlook?
Five tools fit, and they split into two camps: assistants that work inside the Outlook you already use, and full clients that replace it.
| Tool | How it works with Outlook | Drafts in your tone | Triage and labels | Follow-up reminders | Price per user per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | Built into Outlook for work or school accounts | Draft with Copilot and Coaching by Copilot; learning your personal style is not documented | Prioritize your inbox, email triage actions | Not documented | Copilot Business add-on $21 paid yearly (shown at $18 on Oct 6, 2026) |
| Fyxer | Assistant layer on your Gmail or Outlook inbox | Yes, from Pro up | Yes, from Pro up | Follow-up list on every plan | Free plan; Pro $49, or $37 billed annually |
| Superhuman Mail | Full client "built for teams that use Gmail or Outlook" | Yes, matches the voice and tone of your sent mail | Auto Labels and Auto Archive | Yes, and it drafts the follow-up | Starter $30, or $25 billed annually |
| Spark Mail | Full client for Outlook, Exchange, Gmail, iCloud and IMAP | AI Assistant on Plus; Auto-Drafts marked "soon" | Smart Inbox, Gatekeeper | Reminders | Free plan; Plus $10, or $99 a year |
| Slashy | Full client; Slashy works with Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook.com, and Microsoft 365 | Yes, from a memory that learns as you send | Auto-triage into 7 labels | Open tracking and ghost-detection follow-ups | $30, or $25 billed annually |

Should you keep Outlook or switch clients?
Decide this first, because it removes half the list before you compare a single feature.
Keeping Outlook means Copilot or Fyxer. Your IT setup, add-ins, shared mailboxes and calendar stay exactly as they are, and the AI works on top. The cost is that the client itself does not change: search, speed, the calendar view and keyboard flow are still Outlook's.
Switching means Superhuman, Spark or Slashy. You keep your Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com mailbox and the mail stays on Microsoft's servers, but you read and write it in a different app. That is the only way to get a calendar beside the inbox, read status on every email, or an assistant you can message from your phone.
Does Microsoft 365 Copilot work in Outlook?
Yes, and it is the most native option on this list. Microsoft's Copilot in Outlook FAQ lists prioritizing your inbox, email triage actions, summaries, Draft with Copilot and Coaching by Copilot, across Outlook for Microsoft 365 on Windows and Mac, new Outlook, Outlook on the web, and the iOS and Android apps. It requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot (work) license, and Chat with Copilot needs a work or school account.
Two gaps matter for an individual buyer. Microsoft's FAQ does not say Copilot learns your personal writing style, so drafts start from your prompt and the thread rather than from how you usually write. And the license is a business add-on: Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is listed at $21 per user per month paid yearly, shown at a promotional $18 on the day we checked, on top of a Microsoft 365 plan.
Is Fyxer a good AI assistant for Outlook?
For someone who wants to keep Outlook and add drafting, yes. Fyxer runs as a layer on your Gmail or Outlook inbox, labels incoming mail, drafts replies in your tone, and takes meeting notes. Its pricing page lists a Free plan with meeting notes but no drafted replies or labelling, Pro at $49 per person per month or $37 billed annually, and Team at $99 or $64, which adds several inboxes at once and shared follow-ups. Pro and Team come with a 14-day trial.
The thing to watch is usage. Every plan is metered in monthly credits after a three-month launch offer: labelling costs 0.2 credits per email, a chat message 20 and a recorded minute 1, all from the same pool. Our Fyxer review covers the plans in detail.
Slashy uses the context in your email and calendar to draft, schedule, remember, and follow through.
Does Superhuman work with Outlook?
Yes. Superhuman's Mail page describes it as "built for teams that use Gmail or Outlook." It is a full client, so you switch apps rather than add a layer.
Its AI is broad. Superhuman's AI page says drafts match "the voice and tone in the emails you've already sent," and documents Auto Labels you can define with short prompts, Auto Archive, follow-up reminders that write the follow-up for you, Instant Reply drafts, Ask AI across your inbox, calendar and the web, one-tap scheduling and one-line summaries above each conversation. Its Mail page adds read statuses that show when someone read your email and on which device. Superhuman's help center documents personalization settings (writing style, About me and a Knowledge Base) on Business and Enterprise (Personalization, checked September 16, 2026).
On pricing, Starter is $30 per member per month or $25 billed annually, and Business, which carries auto drafts, Ask AI and custom auto labels, is $40 or $33. Our Superhuman review goes deeper.
Where does Slashy fit for Outlook users?
Slashy works with Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook.com, and Microsoft 365, on web, desktop, and iOS. It is a full client, like Superhuman, with the AI built into every surface rather than added as a button.
What that means day to day: drafts come from a memory system that learns your voice from the mail you send, and on Slashy's own usage data the share of drafts a new user sends without editing climbs from about 30% on day one to over 80% by day 30. Incoming mail is sorted into seven labels before you open the inbox. Open tracking shows when and on which device an email was read, and ghost-detection flags threads that went quiet so the follow-up goes out on time. The calendar sits beside the inbox, and you can reach the assistant from iMessage, SMS or Slack.
"I was spending more time orchestrating AI than actually replying. Now I approve more than I compose. It just reads my mind."
Michelle, The Prompting Company
Slashy Professional is $30 per user per month, or $25 billed annually ($300 a year), with a 7-day trial; a credit card is required to start, and you can cancel before the trial ends. There is no free plan.
What about Spark and Shortwave?
Spark is the budget full client. It connects Outlook, Exchange, Gmail, iCloud and IMAP accounts in one app with a free plan, and its pricing page puts the AI Assistant on Plus at $10 a month or $99 a year, with Auto-Drafts listed as "soon" on Pro. If you mainly want a cleaner unified inbox and light AI help, it is hard to beat on price.
Shortwave is out for Outlook users. Its documentation states that Microsoft 365 and Exchange accounts are not supported, and Outlook.com addresses only work through forwarding.
What to choose if...
- Your company standardizes on Microsoft 365 and you will not change clients: Copilot, if your organization already licenses it. Fyxer, if you want drafts in your tone without changing anything else.
- You want the fastest client on Outlook and your team already likes keyboard-first email: Superhuman.
- You want one plan where drafting, triage, follow-up tracking, the calendar and an assistant you can text all work together: Slashy.
- You want a free or low-cost client across Outlook, iCloud and Gmail: Spark.
- You want a wider comparison first: see 5 AI email clients compared for 2026.
