TL;DR

A real Slack email integration should let you act on your inbox from a channel, not just get pinged about it. Slashy connects to Slack four ways: an important-email automation that DMs you a summary, an @Slashy mention that reads and drafts from your inbox, a card that appears when an email contains a Slack link, and the Slack MCP server for the agent. Setup is one OAuth connection under Settings.

Slack Email Integration: Triage and Reply From Slack

Most "Slack integrations" in email tools are a share button or a notification feed. That covers the easy half of the problem: getting mail into Slack. The harder half is getting instructions back out of Slack and into your inbox, so you never have to open the email app to act on what you just read. Slashy's Slack integration is built for the second half. Here is exactly how it works, what it can and cannot do, and how to set it up.

How do I connect Slack to Slashy?

Open Settings with Cmd and comma, go to Integrations, and find Slack under the Messaging section, next to iMessage. Click Connect and complete the Slack OAuth flow to install the Slashy app into your workspace. Once it finishes, the integration card shows "Connected to {your workspace name}," confirming which team you linked.

There is no channel-by-channel setup. The connection is workspace-level: once installed, @Slashy works in any channel the app has been added to, and the important-email automation (below) DMs you directly regardless of channel.

What can you actually do from Slack once it's connected?

Once Slashy is in your workspace, @-mention it in any channel with a request, the same way you'd ask a colleague. On the product page, Slashy shows this example: someone writes "@Slashy can you find a time with Hooli this week and send the invite?" and Slashy replies in the thread: "Thursday at 10:00 AM works for everyone. I sent the invite to Gavin." The reply lands as a normal threaded Slack message, not a redirect back to the app.

That single interaction touches three systems at once: it reads calendar availability, checks the relevant email thread for context on Hooli, and sends the invite, without you switching out of Slack. The mention pattern works for lookups too. Ask "@Slashy what's the latest from Acme on pricing?" and it searches the inbox and answers in the channel.

The four ways Slack and Slashy connect

Slack email integration isn't one feature, it's four, and each does something different. Knowing which one you're using matters, because two are one-way (inbox to Slack) and two are two-way (you can act from Slack).

FeatureTriggerDirectionWhat happens
@Slashy mentionYou type @Slashy <request> in any channelTwo-wayReads inbox/calendar context, drafts or acts, replies in the thread
Important-email DM automationA labeled "important" email arrivesOne-way (inbox to Slack)Slashy DMs you the sender, company, subject, a short summary, and a link to the thread
In-email Slack link cardAn email you're reading contains a Slack linkTwo-wayA card offers to summarize the linked conversation or draft a reply to it
Slack MCP serverYou ask Slashy's AI to search or post in SlackTwo-wayThe agent calls Slack's own MCP server to search messages or post to a channel

How does the important-email Slack DM work?

This is the automation most people set up first, because it needs no ongoing input. Build it from the Automations page: the trigger is "Important email received," which fires off Slashy's existing importance labeling rather than a separate rules engine you have to maintain. The action DMs you in Slack with the sender's name and company, the subject line, a one-to-two sentence summary of the email, what's actually being asked of you, and a link straight back to the thread.

It's deliberately a DM, not a channel post. The point isn't visibility for a team, it's making sure one specific message reaches you if you're heads-down in Slack instead of your inbox. If you want visibility for a team, that's a separate call the current automation doesn't make for you.

Slashy detects links to app.slack.com and workspace *.slack.com/archives/ threads inside the body of an email you're reading, and surfaces a card with two actions: summarize the linked conversation, or draft a reply to it. Clicking either loads the prompt into Slashy's AI chat sidebar rather than opening Slack in a new tab.

This solves a specific, small but recurring annoyance: someone forwards you an email that references "see the Slack thread here," and normally that means leaving your inbox, finding the thread, reading it, and coming back to write the reply. The card collapses that round trip into one click, using either the same OAuth connection as the DM automation or Slack's own hosted MCP server if you've connected that instead.

Is my Slack data secure?

Slashy is SOC 2 Type II and CASA Tier 2 certified. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, and Slashy does not train AI models on your Slack messages or email content. The Slack connection uses standard OAuth scopes granted at install; you can review or revoke access from your Slack workspace's app management page at any time, independent of anything in Slashy's own settings.

If the Slack app gets uninstalled from the Slack side (an admin removes it, for example), Slashy's integration card reflects that immediately: it shows "Slack app was uninstalled. Please reconnect," and the button label switches to Reconnect. You are not left with a connection that silently stops working with no indication why.

"Slashy is the first email client that feels AI-native instead of AI-bolted-on."

Nikhil, Engineering Leader

That distinction is the actual test for a Slack email integration. A bolted-on version copies email into a channel. An AI-native one lets you finish the task from wherever you already are, because the AI reading your inbox and the AI answering in Slack are the same memory system, not two separate integrations pretending to talk to each other.

Troubleshooting: Slack keeps asking me to reconnect

This almost always means the Slack app was removed at the workspace level, whether by an admin cleaning up integrations or a Slack-side security review. Go to Settings, Integrations, Slack, and click Reconnect to redo the OAuth flow. Your automations and any labels you've built around them are not deleted when this happens, they simply stop firing until the connection is restored.

If @Slashy isn't responding in a specific channel, check that the Slashy app has actually been invited to that channel. A workspace-level install does not automatically add the bot to every private channel; for those, an admin or channel member needs to /invite @Slashy once.
